God's Greatest Attribute by Preston Silvey

What do you think God’s greatest attribute is? Is it His omnipotence or His omniscience? Is it His omnipresence or His faith? I personally believe it is love. Why do I believe this? In the most famous verse in the Bible, John 3:16, it states, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” It says that God so LOVED the world that He gave. What motivated God to give humanity His best gift? Love. He knew that we would never be good enough to meet His righteous standards, so Jesus came to offer us salvation if we would only believe on Him (Acts 16:31). It has often been said that God loved us so much that He would rather die than live without us and it is true!

With the plethora of dating websites and reality shows about relationships out there, it leads me to think about how every person longs and searches for true love, regardless of their culture, society, race, or religion. Why do all people yearn to be loved since not all religions teach the same thing? I believe it is because we are all created by God and God is love (I John 4:8). All people long for acceptance. While many do not search for God or even believe that He exists, they all long for love. Why? The fact that every human being seeks to be loved proves that God exists. They are really searching for God, not love; they just don’t know it, yet. Without God, love would not exist. God proves that He exists because all humanity longs for His greatest attribute: love.

Love isn’t something that God chooses to do, it is who He is. Do you believe that God loves you regardless of how you live? He does, not because of anything that you can do for Him, but simply because that is who He is and you are His child. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (I John 4:10 NKJV). This does not give us a license to sin freely because if we love Him we will obey Him, but our worth to the Lord isn’t based on our performance. So, my question to you is do you believe that God wants to show you how much He loves you? You might say, “Yes, I know that God loves me because of what Jesus did.” That is true, but God wants to give you a personal revelation for yourself. See, you can’t truly love until you have been shown. We love Him because He first loved us (I John 4:19). The Lord Jesus Christ wants to show you how much you mean to Him. All we have to do is ask and seek. Keep asking and don’t stop until He shows you. It will change you, I promise.
